I was a voracious reader as a child, but never--unlike many children who are voracious readers--an indiscriminate one. Possibly this was because I came from a very literate and fairly well-off family; there was a constant influx of new books into the house.
Also, when I was around seven or eight, I found The Color Purple on my mother's bookshelf. I was horrified, and, I recognize in retrospect, a bit turned on, which didn't actually make the experience less horrifying. I may have been cured of picking up books at random for life.
Throughout my childhood, there was a book at my grandparents' house called Inspector Saito's Small Satori. The title is memorable enough that it has been lodged in my memory for most of my life, but perhaps for the aforementioned reasons, I don't think I ever tried to read it. If I did, I certainly didn't get very far.
Also, I didn't know what satori meant. Based on the cover of the book, I decided it was something like a gazebo.
All this is to say that I have been seized with the urge to write a fic called "Asami Sato's Small Satori" but a) I feel this would be inappropriate, as I have never read the book in question, and b) I have no idea what the fic would be about.
Possibly a gazebo?
ETA: Also a good name for a fic: “Inspector Spacetime’s Small Satori”. This has the additional problem that I have never seen an episode of Community. And yet, I feel like I should do a pan-fandom series on various characters’ small satoris. It would be like a Canadian shack, in a way.
