It's true that Reynir may have invited Onni out to eat because a) he's a nice, friendly guy and/or b) he's hot for Onni. But there's also the possibility that c) he wants a social buffer when he has to deal with his parents.

Yesssss. But of course I do ship them pretty hard.

But also, as someone on tumblr said, the most recent pages are making me miss Tuuri all over again--she would have loved Reykjavik.

Oh gosh, yeah. Although somehow I don't think having other people around would really help, his parents seem perfectly willing to talk about whatever no matter who else is there. XD

Heheh, true. And honestly, if you want to make sure that everyone stays on their politest and most pleasant behavior, is Onni Hotakainen really the guy you want to bring along?

And if Reynir was hoping for someone to back him up about maybe not staying on the farm for the rest of his life, Onni would definitely be the wrong guy to bring along. "That's an excellent idea you have there, lady. May I suggest shackling him to the barn while you're at it?"

Oh, absolutely, he's looking for buffering.

But also, I think Reynir mostly wants to get to know Onni as a person (they've been thrown together mostly by necessity and stress) and maybe bridge the gap or clear the air somehow, in his dogged sunshiney way. Some positive, happy, stress-free(ish) interactions might help! Who knows! Reynir knows he's kind of a hapless fool and a regular guy, but Onni doesn't and probably doesn't WANT to know who he really is. So I think Reynir realizes this isn't the time or the place to have a Serious Talk about magic stuff with his parents on the loose—but he is hoping for an opportunity to set that conversation up, and make it clear to Onni that he is pretty normal and not such a stranger or a threat.

You're probably right, but yeah, Onni really doesn't want and isn't good at the sort of pleasant small-scale interactions that going out for a meal implies.
